Have you seen dozens of students glued to their computers lately? Well, they are probably playing Papi Trampoline. This addicting game has captured the minds of innocent teenagers for hours at a time. So what makes this game so amusing? Vegetables.

You are Mr. Papi, the red ball guy. Your objective is to jump on the monsters, which are vegetables. It starts out easy with onions and progresses to pumpkins, carrots, and tomatoes. You use the arrows on your keyboard to jump up, to move to the right, and to move to the left. Onions are the easiest to jump on and are worth the least points. Tomatoes are the hardest to jump on and are worth the most points. To gain more points you hop on several vegetables without touching the ground. These are called chains. The higher the chain, the more points you receive. The number of chains you get depends on how many veggies you jump on before touching the ground.  If you crash into the monsters from a side or the bottom, the game is over. It’s like jumping on a trampoline, hence the name.

Online you can submit your scores and see how you compare to the rest of the Papi jumpers. It tells you your grade, like an A+ or a C, and has your highest score listed. There are two worldwide ranking lists, a ranking of the last 100 people and top 100 of the month. There is a button on the game after you have died that says, “submit score.” To submit your score you click on it, and it brings you to the rankings online. You can enter your own username and can change it at anytime.

Papi Trampoline is a free game that can be downloaded on an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, almost all Apple computers, Windows 8, the Windows phone, and Androids. To download the app you either go to the App Store or the Google Play Store. Papi Trampoline was created by Sunflat GAMES. Sunflat GAMES has dozens of other fun games. So now you know that most teenagers glued to their computers are probably jumping on some vegetables.

NYC: In a Different Perspective

New York City

is the place to be

to experience different cultures

to eat different food

to worship different religions

to meet different people

to see different places.

New York City is different.

The city is a circus

The city is

Times Square, Broadway,

and Manhattan

but also

The Bronx

Staten Island.

All Different.

The lights are the most outstanding part of the city

but the unique neighborhoods

in the other

(less appreciated burrows)

Make NYC

City of Dreams

The sun peeks out of the horizon, saying “Good Morning”.

But the city is already awake.

The Subway trains slow into the station,

birds in Central Park chirp tunes

and Broadway signs flicker with life.

Blue dotted curtains on apartment windows open,

letting the light flood into their homes.

Cars already fill the streets,

scattered sounds filling the New England air.

The paper stands are open,

today’s news broadcasted across the busy sidewalks.

Doors open and close,

people come and go.

Young and old,

men and women.

Nothing divides them.

Trains pull out of the station,

streaking across the city with no time to lose.

Passing through the city,

slicing the cold early-spring air,

the train speeds across the tracks.

It’s old engine groans with protest, but keeps going.

Faster, faster.

The engineer urges,

trying to push the train.

It presses on.

And finally the train slows,

the station in sight. As the train squeals to a stop,

passengers walk off the train, the intercom welcoming them.

“Welcome to The City of Dreams.”

New York

New York is a maze

Twists and turns

Turns and twists

Dead ends.

Turning in and out

through buildings,

through blocks

Seeking for gladness

and happiness.

Find your way

to the new way

of light

Casting your dreams,

through day

through night

Chicago Bulls defeat streaking Heat

On Wednesday March 27th, 2012 at about 6:00 pm at the United Center in Chicago Illinois, the Miami Heat were ready to stroll in and get their 28th win in a row. They were trying to brake the 33 Game win streak from the 71-72 Los Angeles Lakers during the Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West era. The struggling Chicago Bulls had other plans. They were trying to end the mighty Heat streak by playing hard nosed 70s smash mouth basketball. And that they did, and Bulls Point guard Kirk Hinrich Slammed Lebron James to the ground when James was on a fast break. Lebron was furious with the refs and thought Hinrich should have been ejected but for the fans of Chicago they absolutely loved it. I also loved it. The Bulls play tough Basketball and would never let the Miami show boats do trick dunks against them. Many of the Heat players said that because of the awful fouls is the reason they lost, but that should be how all N.B.A teams play against them because they do not like to get fouled. All in all it was a great win for Chicago and I personally loved the game.

Fearless Felix: Red Bull Stratos

8091578843_47e2f12f09_nFelix Baumgartner is an Austrian Skydiver, dare devil, and base jumper. He said he has always loved heights since he was a boy, and lived for adrenaline rushes. Once he was about 25 he entered the Austrian military Felix spent most of his practicing parachute jumping, including training to land on small targets. He continued to do this for years and years, until he became very experienced.

His first base jumps he says were very scary. He said there was no one really to help him out. He says it always scares his family whenever he tells them he is doing another jump. He continued to do more and more jumps, and wanted to start experimenting with it. He decided to embark on the scariest jump of his life. Baumgartner’s most recent project was Red Bull Stratos. This mission took many years of planning.  The purpose of the Red Bull Stratus mission is to transcend human limits. The Red Bull Stratos team brings together the world’s leading minds in aerospace medicine, engineering, pressure suit development, capsule creation and balloon fabrication.

Supported by a team of experts, partnered with Red Bull energy drinks, Felix Baumgartner ascended to 128,100 feet in a stratospheric balloon and made a free fall jump rushing toward earth at supersonic speeds before parachuting into a desert of New Mexico. He set the world record for skydiving at 39 kilometers, reaching an estimated speed of 1357.64 km/h, and became the first person to break the sound barrier without vehicular power on his descent. In total, the jump lasted approximately eight minutes and eight seconds. His successful feat on Oct. 14, 2012 holds the potential to provide valuable medical and scientific research data for future pioneers. Felix Baumgartner will never be forgotten, as he showed us that “ The only limit is the one you set for yourself “

Avalanche Warnings.

Dear skiers,

Many of you are taking a trip into the backcountry. Skiing is very fun and most people do it on there free time. However, there are many dangers in this activity. If you decide to go there are many signs that you can tell if there is an avalanche and ways to help you get out if you unfortunately experience one.

If you are on a slope and you are getting ready to ski there are some signs that an avalanche is likely. Watch to see if there is too much space between snow particles and sudden changes in the weather. Also if there are high slopes and bits of fresh snow I suggest not skiing down them unless you want to die. If you unfortunately experience one there are some ways to stay safe from avalanches. Bring a shovel for digging just in case someone gets trapped under the snow and make sure everyone in your group has one so they can all help. Also bring a beacon for locating a person under the snow. And lastly, consider purchasing a body float made by North Face that helps keep you on top of the snow. I know it is very expensive but would you rather pay $1,179 dollars for a safety jacket or would you rather be dead? This is why you should be very careful if you decide to do this extreme skiing.

This is a very dangerous activity and know that people enjoy it but please be extremely careful. Please go out and buy all the things in this essay because it can happen to anyone and you don’t want it to be you. You don’t want this skiing trip to be your last. Please listen to my advice and be very careful if you decide to go.

Love, Mariano

Keep your lips baby smooth during the winter!

Chapped lips be gone!

Chapped lips be gone!

It’s that type of year again! Winter is the most driest season of all and one of the worst things about it is chapped lips. It’s a never ending cycle of dry, chapped, and painful lips. You can put on as much chapstick as you want, but because of the cold weather, they will continuously get chapped. The answer: a lip peeling remedy.

A DIY easy and simple way to keep your lips feeling soft and moisturized is by combining a tablespoon of brown sugar and honey. Brown sugar is a sugar crystal that will soften and exfoliate your lips. Adding honey to the brown sugar will allow the brown sugar to be spread and will plump your lips.

Some other helpful tips to keep your lips baby soft in the harsh weather is to not lick your lips! Believe it or not but licking your lips will make the chapped lips worse. The Saliva evaporates and causes the lips to become dehydrated.

Instead of using a colored, scented and waxy chapstick go for a lipbalm such a Burt’s Bee’s or use petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly can also be used for many other beauty secrets such as making eyelashes grow longer, helps sents stay longer, hides split ends and many more! Don’t let the cold winter weather get you down. Continue reading
