Every day teenagers spend six or more hours in school doing schoolwork. Every day teenagers are sent home from school with schoolwork to do at home. What is the point?
This homework tends to be worksheet after worksheet that takes up teenagers’ valuable time. It also leaves them dreading school the next day where the cycle will begin all over again. Is there a true value in assigning homework?
Recent studies show that there is not to pile on the homework. The time teen spent on homework could be spent on many other things.
Teens need time for exercise and creativity. They need to have time to spend with their families. They spend with friends to explore their own interests. After school hours should not be a repeat of the school day.
When students are free after school so many positive results will follow. First, they will not be fighting with their parents over homework. Next, they will have time to develop new pastimes. Also, they will be able to participate in sport programs and get exercise that they need. In addition, they will be able to spend time with their families and friends. Finally, and most importantly, teenagers will be refreshed and look forward to the next school day and all the learning that goes with it.
