Nachos. A wonderful snack. Have you ever wondered where they originated from? Or who you have to thank for this highly enjoyable snack?

Military officers would often cross the border from Fort Duncan to Piedras Negras . a group of women came to a restaurant called Victory Club. They wanted a bite to eat, but the cook was nowhere to be found. The maitre d’ was happy for the business, but searched all over the place for the chef. When he couldn’t find him he looked around and found tortillas, cheddar cheese, and jalapeno peppers. When asked what this dish was called, he responded with, “Nachos especiales,” which translates to special nachos. The man’s name was Ignacio Anaya, sometimes called Nacho, and the rest is history.

Throughout the years, people have made several variations of the dish, adding different toppings such as bacon, spam, guacamole, and beans.  Even though it was invented in Mexico, it was created to satisfy an American appetite. Thank you, missing chef!
